A whiiiiile ago, I did this icon meme, which basically goes like this: take the icon on the right and the left in the first row of your icon page, pair the characters in them, write a drabble. Go down the page, rinse, repeat. Good, crackish fun.

Today, though, I was deleting and reuploading icons, and I realized how completely ridiculous that meme would be with the icons I've got now.

I mean, look at a couple of these:

- WALL-E/Eowyn
- Adam Savage/Spock

And then the orgy: Naruto/Sakura/Sasuke/Mello

Just. WAT.

... Sad thing is, I'm tempted to do it. For the lulz.

In which I am unrepentantly snobbish.

st09: spock - live long and suck it
This annoyed me so much I decided I would share with you all.

In 2010, a Spiderman musical is coming out on Broadway. It's called "Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark." If you thought to yourself "man that's a shit title," then you thought the same thing I did. The worst two minutes I've spent this month were listening to Julie Taymor justify that subtitle by relating some ridiculous story Bono apparently told her about a little kid who once asked his dad to "turn off the dark" rather then "turn on the light."

It's a cute anecdote and all, but as my friend pointed out, "I said a lot of shit when I was a kid, you don't see me making it into a musical's subtitle!"

Oh, did I forget to mention? Bono and The Edge wrote the score. Excellent. I can just see them becoming the next great musical theatre-writing duo. AND WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT. One of the press releases on the website says "Roll Over, Rodgers and Hammerstein," like this shit is EVER GOING TO REPLACE classics like Oaklahoma! and Carousel and South Pacific.

NO.

JUST. NO.

There's other stuff that is wtf-worthy about this production, but I can't talk about those things because I was told them in confidence by someone who worked on it. But trust me when I tell you that they also make me facepalm quite hard.

Shit like this just pisses me off. No wonder Broadway--musical theatre in general, to be honest--is declining so rapidly in quality. Everything is about flash and bang spectacle these days, without a lick of concern for substance in the book and score. (Script and music, for those who may not know the jargon.)

I've always liked straight plays more than musicals and this is why. About the only modern composer I can stand is Stephen Sondheim.

(Though I guess the one positive thing this whole shitstorm did teach me was that Richard Rodger's last name was, in fact, spelled with a "d." I feel like I should have known this, but I didn't!)

In other news, HOLY SHIT IT'S AUDREY II IRL GET IN THE CAR

I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING.

D: D: D: D: D:

Why don't we do it in the road?

I blame [info]goldengrimoire and [info]hieronymousb for wanting to do this at all. Because it's totally you guys' fault that I have a dirty mind. Yup.

The Smut Writer's Meme: Name any pairing from past or current fandoms and ask me a question. I'll tell you anything you want to know about their sex lives from my own personal fanon.

In other news: totally stuffed from yesterday, never eating again except for that leftover pie I managed to steal out from under people's noses, etc. etc. I hope everyone on my flist had an equally lovely holiday, or for you non-American types, a lovely Thursday :)

Guys. Guys. The crossover fic is writing itself in my head and I want it OUT.

When I saw "With my bb Keanu portraying Spike this is an overload of goodness" in the comments I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Just.

Why.

Edit:
Someone suggested Dakota Fanning = Mello and I'll admit, I lol'd.

I'm. About 85% certain they were kidding :|

Naruto:

Spoilers for 472 )

Death Note:

Spoilers up to Chapter 75 )

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown:

This doesn't go under a cut because it's not a spoiler. It's just my snarky prediction, made about a chapter after we meet one of these characters, because I swear this man is the most formulaic writer.

I call:

- Inoue Sato is the one we're supposed to think is the bad guy but is actually a good guy, and
- Warren Bellamy is the guy we're supposed to like but is actually the evil mastermind.

We'll see if I'm right when I finish, I guess.

Most of this shit is above a cut because it's very general and not-spoilery. Also I'm tired so I can't speak to this post's coherent-ness.

- Okay, even I can't deny the subtext between Light and L. Jesus Mary and Joseph. I don't ship it though because I really can't imagine L having sex. Mostly because of his posture, which holy crap bothers me as someone who's done some movement and dance. STAND UP STRAIGHT KAJSLDFJ. (... I still love you, though, you kook.)

- You know, the whole "talking out one's logic for pages and pages on end" thing isn't as interesting when it's not coming out of L's or Light's mouth. Shut up, you murderous corporate types. Let's get back to the people who are actually attention-worthy.

- Shit, guys. I just have to admit it. Light is hot. Really hot. I want to tie him up and do terrible things to him. He'd deserve it.

Baby Spoiler )

- I do so love the cops. I miss Aizawa already, and the bumbling-idiot-in-a-room-full-of-geniuses isn't normally my kind of character but baaaw Matsuda.

- Where are Mello and Near already? fffff

In other news, insomnia sucks. Ah well.

You know what's weird about reading this manga?

The protagonist is a horrible, horrible human being. And I have no sympathy for vigilantism. But... I like him! As a character, Light never fails to be interesting. I simultaneously want to see how he'll outsmart L this time and watch him die horribly. Which I'm sure he will. He's got "death by hubris" written all over him.

But. Augh. The women.

Spoilers. )

Edit: Oh, one other thing that ticks me off? THE FBI DOESN'T HAVE ANY JURISDICTION OVERSEAS. Any investigation of a foreign police force would... well I don't even know if that would be the CIA, but the FBI is strictly within the United States. Factual fail there, Takeshi Obata. Yes this annoys me enough to point it out.

My mother is so funny.

We went out to see a local play last night, and one of songs underscoring it was a classical aria. She wanted to know who the soprano was, so I texted the guy who put together the music, who replied that it was Kathleen Battle.

Mom: Oh, duh, of course it was!
Me: [dryly] Yeah, Mom, how could you not know that. God.

I mean fffff it's not like most people are up on their operatic sopranos.

This is what living with a classical musician is like, guys. XD

Kathleen Battle, by the way--

--has a gorgeous voice.

Anyway. Ganked from [info]bellzooks:

Give me a pairing and I will write a love note from one to another. The pairing can be my character and yours, mine and someone else's, or anything that strikes your fancy as long as I know who they are.

Mmm, I love the smell of bigotry.

Well, I was just going to post on one thing, but not it seems I've got two doses of fail for you folks. Aren't you excited?

So I was reading Dan Brown's new book. Yes I know. Shut up. I know they're terrible and they're factually questionable and deliberately controversial, yadda yadda, but they're kind of fun. In a mindless sort of way. And I don't have the brainpower to process a deep book purely for leisure, these days. God when do I graaaaaduate...

But then there was this nugget of transfail. Which I'm putting behind a cut for length, not for spoilers, because there are no spoilers, it's literally ten pages into the book.

Oh Dan... )

So there's that.

But then, what I was going to talk about before I discovered the above. How about some anti-semitism to go along with that?

Apparently people are attacking Elie Weisel for... pointing out that it's disgusting to compare national health care to the Holocaust. HOW DARE HE.

The sign that started it. )

Auuuugh. Stop the world I want to get off.

I think I should learn how to swear at people in Yiddish. Because all insults in Yiddish are hilarious.

Like so: Ale tseyn zoln bay im aroysfaln, not eyner zol im blaybn oyf tsonveytung.

Which means "All his teeth should fall out except one to make him suffer."

Or ahahaha, this one is even better: Es zol dir dunern in boykh, vestu meyen az s’iz a homon klaper. -- "Your stomach will rumble so badly, you'll think it was Purim noisemaker."

I love my people. We are so crotchety XD

You guys always do these things in packs XD

/jumps on bandwagon.

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

And I'm also going to pimp the AkatSaku Kink Meme out, because AkatSaku is my guilty pleasure and I don't care~

Guys I just realized that the coffee I just had was not decaf. I am wired.

You know, now that I've let my paid account expire and I lost a bunch of icons anyway? I've been considering trading in the rest of them for the pile of Mythbusters ones I have. Is that weird/pathetic/jesus I don't care do whatever?

LOOK ITS A HILARIOUS SHOW OKAY.

I'll probably keep the pimp!Sakura one though. For the lulz.

What has surprised you the most about me (if anything) since joining my flist/"friending me"? Was anything completely unexpected or have I always fit the picture of me you have in your head?

Post this in your own journal and see how you have surprised people!

1. Comment.

2. I will write you something vaguely resembling fiction based on the icon you used.

3. If the icon in question does not contain fictional characters, I reserve the right to Make Some Shit Up.
To which I add: I also reserve this right if they're fictional characters I'm not familiar with.

-----

I haven't figured out why, exactly, the bookstore at a local modern art museum had books of poetry, but I'm not complaining, because I found a book of love poems by Pablo Neruda and they are just. Gorgeous.

Your Feet

When I cannot look at your face
I look at your feet.

Your feet of arched bone,
your hard little feet.

I know that they support you,
and that your gentle weight
rises upon them.

Your waist and your breasts,
the double purple
of your nipples,
the sockets of your eyes
that have just flown away,
your wide fruit mouth,
your red tresses,
my little tower.

But I love your feet
only because they walked
upon the earth and upon
the winds and upon the waters,
until they found me.

Original Spanish under here. ) Hey, [info]zelha, how's the translation? My Spanish is kind of. Terrible. And solely dependent on substituting Spanish words into my knowledge of French :F OR HEY, [info]hieronymousb, YOU'RE TAKING SPANISH RIGHT? XD

Anyway. This book is filled with things like this.

You know, I don't really consider myself a romantic? And it's not that I don't believe in love, because I do, but I don't believe it's the be-all-end-all and it's not a goal of mine and it would always have to be secondary to the things I want to accomplish in life. Not finding love isn't so terrible as not finding a purpose, a passion, something that drives me.

When I read through these poems, though, I imagine what it would be like to be the person for whom they were composed.

And that kernel of myself that is romantic just melts.

They're simple but powerful poems. I also wish I could write like this, but that's another story. XP

Guys, I have a real, serious question here. I know a lot of you are liberals and this kind of thing is likely to spark comments along the lines of "grrr see this is why I hate Republicans," but this is an actual honest question.

What is the Republican party's healthcare plan?

I mean it. I don't care what it is, I just want to hear it! Because I hear a lot of people going "well we don't like Obama's healthcare plan" and "universal healthcare is bad for the country" and, okay. I disagree, but I think that one can make valid points on those assertions that one could debate. But the question then becomes "well then, what would the Republicans rather do?" And so far, I have not gotten an answer.

I can't find one. And I've been a little out of the loop because I no longer have cable but I'm normally still capable of foxing the varying positions out. But I really can't this time! I just hear the same thing over and over. "We don't like Obama's plan." Well, what plan do they like? I really want to know! I want to have some tangible thing to debate!

Unless this really is all reactionary, and worse than that, that they really don't think that anything needs fixing.

I don't want to believe that. I do have conservative Republican friends and we don't see eye to eye but I like talking to them about politics anyway, because those people, the ones I'm friends with, are willing to have open and rational debates about it. And really, that's what I want. I don't really care for the mudslinging and the name-calling in politics these days because I think it's pointless and juvenile. Representative Alan Grayson? I'm kind of ticked at him for his rhetoric. I get his point but I couldn't listen past the Holocaust invocation because damn if that isn't the one thing that'll set me off. I'm equally as leery of anything Michael Moore has to say as I am Ann Coulter. People like that on the left tend to piss me off more, because I think, "get the hell off my side! You're making me look like an idiot!"

I don't want them to be right this time.

Can anyone help me out?

No u, weather
